چکیده

We present CO(1–0) and CO(2–1) line emission maps of the barred spiral active galaxy HE 1029-1831 (z = 0.0403) obtained with the IRAM Plateau de Bure Interferometer (PdBI) and in part by the Berkeley-Illinois-Maryland Association (BIMA) observatory. The CO emission is well associated with the optical bar and extended along it. The FWHM of the CO emission is estimated to be ∼(6 ± 2) kpc. The CO emission shows a strong velocity gradient along the minor axis of the bar (PA = 90◦). The molecular gas mass is estimated to be ∼1.2 × 1010M which indicates a very gas rich host galaxy. Most of the molecular gas appears to be subthermally excited and cold but we also find weak evidence for a warmer and/or denser gas component at the southern part of the bar emission, about ∼4 kpc from the galactic nucleus.

ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS 13 CO ( 1 – 0 ) and 12 CO ( 2 – 1 ) in the center of the barred galaxy NGC 1530

ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS 13 CO(1–0) and 12 CO(2–1) in the center of the barred galaxy NGC 1530 Abstract. We present 13 CO(1–0) and 12 CO(2–1) aperture synthesis maps of the barred spiral galaxy NGC 1530. The angular resolutions are respectively 3 ′′ .1 and 1 ′′ .6. Both transitions show features similar to the 12 CO(1–0) map, with a nuclear feature (a ring or unresolved spiral arms) surrounde...

Molecular Gas in Candidate Double Barred Galaxies III. A Lack of Molecular Gas?

Most models of double-barred galaxies suggest that a molecular gas component is crucial for maintaining long-lived nuclear bars. We have undertaken a CO survey in an attempt to determine the gas content of these systems and to locate double barred galaxies with strong CO emission that could be candidates for high resolution mapping. We observed ten galaxies in CO J=2−1 and J=3−2 and did not det...

Emission in Spiral Galaxies: Warm Molecular Gas in Action?

Using the APEX sub-millimeter telescope we have investigated the CO(3−2) emission in five face-on nearby barred spiral galaxies, where three of them are high surface brightness galaxies (HSBs) lying at the Freeman limit, and two are low surface brightness galaxies (LSBs). We have positive detections for two of three HSB spirals and non-detections for the LSBs. For the galaxies with positive det...

The Physical Conditions and Dynamics of the Interstellar Medium in the Nucleus of M 83 : Observations of CO and C I Glen

This paper presents [C I], 12CO J=4−3, and 12CO J=3−2 maps of the barred spiral galaxy M83 taken at the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope. Observations indicate a double peaked structure which is consistent with gas inflow along the bar collecting at the inner Lindblad resonance. This structure suggests that nuclear starbursts can occur even in galaxies where this inflow/collection occurs, in contr...
